4 Lies People Believe About Learning To Fight

Lies People Believe About Learning To Fight - Mistakes That are Made By Millions
Self defense is one of the most important things that you should look into at any age. Protecting yourself and others is a great thing. However, most people don't go into learning because they are believing a lot of lies. The lies that are believed are interesting in that they are common place amidst a lot of different factors. You may find yourself making excuses, and not sure how to get into the world of martial arts, defending yourself, and all other things. Whether you are thinking about street fighting, knife fighting, or any other type of defense mechanism, there are a few things that you need to know that are outright lies. These are the lies people believe about learning to fight today.

You Need A Weapon So You Can Learn To Fight

Bad guys are going to have knives, guns, and much more. That doesn't mean that you have to be armed. You can be, there are legal matters that allow you to be armed in many cities. However, you do not need a weapon to learn to fight, nor do you need one to ensure that you're fighting back against anyone. Another lie that comes within this framework is that you will not have time to draw your own weapon. To learn to fight back doesn't mean that you need a weapon, nor does it mean that you will not have time to draw one if you need it. The focus of your training should be two fold. You should learn how to use a weapon properly, if you want to go that route, practicing how to aim and use things properly. The other thing that you should know is simple, you need to know how to react when someone pulls a weapon on you. This will take time to master, but it's a primary concern amidst those that are looking at self defense courses of all types.

It's Going To Be A Fair Fight

This is an outright lie that you cannot believe. You should never believe that anyone, outside of a tournament for martial arts, will be fair. There are no fair fights when you are in the real world. That doesn't mean that you are going to be dealing with unfair fights everywhere you go, and you should just learn bare knuckle, street fighting. Instead, you need to have a mindset that focuses on the fact that a real fight is chaotic, and you are going to need to control that chaos with precision. The goal of learning how to fight, and figuring out self defense from any angle, is to control what others cannot. A fair fight is extremely rare. As you learn to fight, remember that, and keep in mind that you need to master the mindset of fighting, not just the moves that you need to follow through with.

They Are Going To Just Let You Do Your Martial Arts

The next lie is a simple one, and something that gets a lot of dojo trained students in trouble. The problem here is that people are going to assume that an attacker is going to wait for a proper martial arts stance. An attacker is not going to wait for you to get ready, to get into a stance, to do your kung fu, or any other martial art. You have to be able to explode at a moment's notice. This is something that takes time to master, so if you're a beginner, you are not going to be ready. Whether you have a weapon or not, you need to remember that an offender in any realm is not going to wait for you to do cool moves and impress him. Remember, a real fight, and real world attacks are not like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movies. It is very rare that you are going to meet someone nefarious that is going to put their hands up and start a martial arts stance to see who is better at any major discipline. If only it were true. Those are entertainment options, and do not reflect the nature of real self defense. When you learn to fight, remember, others are not going to wait for you to get ready or to get into a proper stance.

Knowing Martial Arts Means You Can Take On All Comers

Here is one of the biggest lies that you are going to need to shake off. Just because you master one area of martial arts, doesn't mean that you can take on anyone. There are going to be people that are crazy, will not fit into any mold, and will attack you in ways that you may not be ready for. It's with that in mind that you should not just learn self defense in one arena, and that's it. You should be fluid, like water, and start to learn various defense elements. As you learn to fight, make sure that you take your time to master all the basics, and know that self defense, martial arts, and any sort of fighting method is based on a lifetime of experience. That doesn't mean that you won't learn to fight fast, it just means that you shouldn't think that you can take on all comers with your knowledge. You should be humble enough to know that there are times and places where you can defend yourself and others, and other times when you need to stay back a little. You are not a robot, and when the time to defend appears, be ready, just don't assume you are going to be in an action movie as a result of your quest to learn to fight.
