5 Surprisingly Simple Self Defense Tips You Need Today

5 Surprisingly Simple Self Defense Tips You Need Today
5 Surprisingly Simple Self Defense Tips You Need Today
No one ever thinks that they are going to fight. I don’t ever want to fight, but one thing is true, if I do fight, I know enough to protect myself and others. Do you know what to do in case you are attacked in a hand to hand issue? What if someone tries to bother you at school, or work? What if you’re at the ATM? Well, here are 5 surprisingly simple things that can help you learn to fight, and help you stay safe just in case you have to deal with a bully or someone that wants to take you on.

Attack The Knee

If you are near an attacker, aim for their knee and make sure that you hit as hard as you can. It’s very difficult for someone to defend their knees, and if you kick or hit them hard enough in the knee, they are going to be hurt long enough for you to run. The goal is to protect yourself, and get out of harms way, and that can be done by hitting the knee. An attacker can’t run if they have a knee injury, and you can easily attack hard with the sole of your foot if need be.

Use Your Palm and Break a Nose While You Learn To Fight

Not sure how to fight? Not sure what to do, then open up your hand, and drive your palm into someone’s nose straight on. You don’t need a lot of force to do this, and everyone’s nose is sensitive to breaking because it’s not made of bone. Shove your palm with force upwards towards the face of someone, and if you break their nose, they won’t be able to see very well, they’ll be bleeding, and you can run, or call for help. From that point forward, even a feather is going to hurt if it touches that broken nose.

Know Where The Solar Plexus Is

I’m a big fan of professional wrestling. As you learn to fight, you will need to learn pressure points that can help you getting the upper hand against any number of attackers. Now, if you are in a fight, whether in the streets, or you are a teen on the school yard wanting to protect your neck against bullies, then you need not be a fan of pro wrestling for this one. You need to know where the solar plexus is. It’s right underneath the sternum, above the belly button, and before the abs start to form on a ripped person. Punch, kick, or strike someone in the solar plexus region and they will have the wind knocked out of them, straightway. You need to know where this is on a person, because even a swift punch with only half of your strength will knock the air out of someone. You can then run or call for help if you need to.

The Proper Headbutt Could Save Your Life

Another movement that I love in pro wrestling is the classic headbutt. Ever seen a Samoan deliver one of these? They knock out their opponents in some cases. Now, how can you learn the proper technique? Well, it’s not that hard. When you’re in front of someone, grab their collar or shirt, and then use your strength and momentum to drive the top of your head through their face, making sure that you’re looking at the ground. Now, it’s important that you pull them by the collar, push back, then move forward through the person like you were going to hit them with a football helmet. Your cranium will not only stun them, you’ll do serious damage. This is enough to get them to fall or at least run away if you need to. A well placed headbutt, with the top of your head will NOT knock you out, it will deliver a serious blow, if you do it correctly.

Steal Their Ears

One of the hardest parts to defend, and one of the things that NO bully or attacker is expecting is for their victim to grab their ears. Sure, you could slap someone in the ear, you can try to punch them in that area, or you could do something better, literally grab their ear and yank as hard as you can. If you pull their ear as hard as you can, you will be able to literally pull their head in any direction that you want, and will be able to call for help or subsequently land blows that are going to cause them to cry, or at least run off. Grab an ear and pull like you’re going to rip it off. Heck, if you do rip it off they are going to run in fear.

These are some simple tips that you can use to defend yourself. Of course, these are panic button ideas, and do not reflect the true nature of training with martial arts or any course of self defense. If you are looking to really learn to fight, and you want to gain confidence, lose weight, and much more, then take advantage of the programs and ideas linked within each of our posts. They will help you learn these techniques and much more to ensure that you are safe, and learn to fight with relative ease.

Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter
Tactical Pen 4 - In 1 - From Survival Hax
When it comes to self defense, you are going to have a lot of different options to take into consideration. Now, not everyone is going to want to carry around large items, or something that looks like it’s used for self defense or survival. It’s for that reason why some things are best done with discretion. Now, I previously talked a little bit about monkey fists. While those can look like keychains, they are powerful self defense, and survival weapons. The same can be said about a lot of products that are in the realm of survival etc. Today, I want to shine light on a product that I have been seeing getting a bit of praise and wanted to test out on my own. The product I’m reviewing today is that of the Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter from Survival Hax.

A Pen For Self Defense and Survival?

The first thing that you need to know is simple, you are going to find that this is a solution that is going to work well with nearly any situation that you’re in. The reason for it is because it’s not just a pen. Yes, it’s a working pen, but it’s what’s inside and how you use the components that you are going to really love. There’s 4 major components to the Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter that you need to know about.

Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter
Powerful LED Light

The Powerful LED

The first thing that I noticed with this pen was the powerful LED. The pen light on this is not a flimsy, simple light that glows. This thing is epically bright, and it’s so bright that I was able to get my cats to chase the light across the house in the dark. You can screw this on fast, and you can trigger it without having to fumble around for a light or a smartphone. Light is one of the key components in survival and self defense, because it blows the cover of those that are trying to be sneaky.

Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter
Fire Starter

Fire Starter

For camping enthusiasts, and those that like to be outdoors as well. Surviving a night in the cold is not easy. But if you start a fire, you’re golden. But what if you have wet matches? What if you don’t have a lighter? What do you do? Well, that’s where this is going to impress. You see, there’s a magnesium fire starter that is located inside of this pen. You can use the rod and strike it again a sharp object and you will get strong sparks. Use a knife blade, for instance, and you’ll see strong sparks that can help you start a fire fast. This is one of the most incredible elements that comes with the Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter.

Ink Pen Works Too

Need a pen? Well here you go, this simple thing is a pen that works. Yes, it’s an ink pen. You will be able to simply use the ballpoint pen and you can reuse it if need be. You can get a new cartridge in place, and you could very well write with relative ease. I kid you not, this his a working pen not just a survival tool or a self defense solution.

Glass Breaker

One of the scariest things that you can face off against is falling into water with your vehicle. Whether it’s due to an accident or it’s something that you are dealing with because of flooding, or any reason, you will be trapped. You cannot just open up a window when you’re sinking, and you’ll need to break the windows around you. Well, that’s where the Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter comes through yet again. There is a glass breaker that allows you to shatter glass and get out of a car that is submerged, or even help you save someone that is going down.

Pros and Cons of The Tactical LED Pen With Glass Breaker and Fire Starter

There are a few pros and cons that you should be aware of whenever you’re going to invest in a product for survival or self defense. With that in mind, take into consideration a few notes in terms of pros and cons.

Book Review: The Shaolin Workout: 28 Days To Transforming Your Body and Soul The Warriors Way by Shin Yan Ming

The Shaolin Workout Learn Kung Fu step By Step
buy the shaolin workout paperback
There are a lot of books that you can jump into, and learn about kung fu and more. Focusing on more than self defense, let’s take into account how to learn kung fu step by step, with the help of a fitness book that is going to surprise you completely. The book in question is that of The Shaolin Workout: 28 Days To Transforming Your Body and Soul The Warriors Way by Shin Yan Ming. This is a book that runs 304 pages if you get the paperback, and of course it differs if you have the kindle version, or the hardcover overall. This is a book that surprised me when I picked it up, and started to work with the motions, and the movements. One benefit that I ended up getting with this was not necessarily how to learn kung fu step by step, but rather weight loss. I kid you not, I dropped 23 pounds by changing things up a little. I know, that sounds insane, but it’s an honest take on what I was trying to accomplish in trying to review this book for this blog, and actively pursuing the notion that I could learn kung fu step by step.

Does Shin Yan Ming Show You How To Learn Kung Fu Step By Step?

The short answer here is, no. This is not a fully realized kung fu manual, at least not the same. It’s something that is a little more than the premise of how to learn kung fu step by step. This is something that is a bit more focused on health and wellness. First, it focuses on losing weight, but not literally “hey lose weight here”, but rather something that is meant to help you with your martial arts training. I found that the first thing that I learned was how to work with stretches and movements that helped me with practicing Tai Chi and Kung Fu mixed. I was able to speed up some reaction times in the gym, and helped with my knee pain that I was getting. It also helped me generate a bit of help with my back, which was hurting due to storms nearby. The storms really did a number, but with some of the stretches that I was able to pull with the book, I was able to really calm down the inflammation overall.

There are definite steps to fighting here, and you could learn street fighting from the positions and movements that are shown within Shin Yan Ming’s instructions. Your goal is to take the steps and learn how to master them without the book. I was able to improve my range of motion, and even showed off a few moves in front of a mirror and camera. I’m not going to be filming anytime soon, but upon looking at how I was working through the motions, I found myself reflecting on the bigger picture and hey, I look good in kung fu mode! This doesn’t show you learn kung fu step by step, yet it shows you learn kung fu step by step, which is odd. I am fascinated by that.

The Process of What Shin Yan Ming Shows Off In His Book

As you look into The Shaolin Workout, you are going to be brought back to all of those killer kung fu movies from youth. I grew up on them, mind you. I was able to learn a few of my favorite little movements from the classic, “Snake in Eagles Shadow” for instance, and it felt good to kind of mirror what my favorite kung fu artists were doing. Of course, I’m no Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee, but hey, I looked good. Shin Yan Ming shows off an easy to master process of working out, and if you collaborate the moves within the confines of how Ming teaches, you will in fact learn how to fight. The process is simple, you are given pictures, instructions, and a lot of images that are meant to help you pose, and work through the right balancing act of learning to work out in a martial arts type of way. Mind you, this this a book that is about working out, not just focusing on how to learn kung fu step by step.

The book is easy to follow. It has plenty of pictures, and step by step instructions on how to move your body, and how to burn the calories you need for weight loss. There’s also a balance of strength training that comes with this book as well. You could very well learn kung fu step by step, but this books goes beyond that. It goes into the discussion of your soul, and spiritual fighting balance and mentality. It’s fascinating how the book can move from exercise to mind control, and so much more. Shin Yan Ming really does well in crafting a book that is well balanced, and critical to learning how to use your body for many purposes. Whether you want to improve your weight, your balance, or you want to learn how to associate certain fighting styles, this creates an incredible array of instructions that you’re not going to easily forget that’s for certain.

What Happens After The 28 Days?

What if you don’t become Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan after 28 days? The purpose of this book is not that. But you can always reset the book, and go back. One of the things that I absolutely love about martial arts, learning, and healthy living is that you can always go back to the beginning, and learn the initial steps again and again, then master them for your own purposes. You can easily focus on books, videos, and even guides that teach learn kung fu step by step, but this is more than that. I liked this because you can test it for 28 days, then start again at the beginning and get another 28 days, and keep going until you feel that you’ve mastered the art of weight loss and kung fu overall. Kung fu solutions are not found with just “one” thing, mind you, which is why Shin Yan Ming constructs a critical book for weight loss, and much more. I found it interesting, and continue to use the movements in the gym, and even when no one seems to be looking. Although, I did fall a few times, and I’m not exactly a Shaolin kung fu master, yet. I also found that the advice on zen, and mindfulness was great, and it helped me with my daily workouts, and routines for writing.

Again, you don’t have to focus on learning every step of this book as fast as you can. You could work with the 28 days, and end up with a positive push forward. I found that despite the premise of the book, and despite that it’s meant to transform you in 28 days, it is part of a larger balance for healthy living. I came into this book with the idea of moving forward with the idea of how to learn kung fu step by step. Instead, I learned a lot more than that, and have found peace, and balance in a lot of different arenas.

The Bottom Line About The Shaolin Workout by Shin Yan Ming

I can sit here and tell you that this is the greatest book ever, but it’s not. I reviewed it, I tested the methods, and within 30 days, which is 2 more than the 28, I managed to enjoy it on a lot of levels. I lost weight, I have better balance on my skateboard, and I’ve managed to see benefits that come with stretching, pain relief, and much more. While I didn’t fulfill that notion of trying to learn kung fu step by step, I did manage to create a balanced weight loss plan that helped with this book. Shin Yan Ming’s book is well worth exploring on a lot of levels, and heck, it could help you with training, weight loss, and so much more. I recommend it as a vital part of your healthy living protocol, and even learning how to work with martial arts, training, and more. It’s a fun, inexpensive book, and you can definitely benefit from it in a big way.

You can purchase, The Shaolin Workout: 28 Days To Transforming Your Body and Soul The Warriors Way by Shin Yan Ming by clicking here. Test it for 28 days, see how far you can go. I did, and recommend this for certain.

3 Reasons You Are Not Going To Become Bruce Lee

bruce lee fighting method
Learn To Fight - Bruce Lee Image From The Big Boss
Before getting started, I wanted to shout out a anti-smoking site for their work. If you’re currently a smoker, you will want to check out this option to quit smoking fast. Whether you’re learning self defense or not, you should click here, to quit smoking, and avoid getting caught up with the issue. You can easily quit, if you know how to get it done right, and well that’s a good resource. Click here for more information on quitting smoking etc.

Every time I talk to anyone about the blog that I write here, I’m told about Bruce Lee. I love Lee, don’t get me wrong. However, people think of self defense and they immediately think of Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. That’s awesome. It’s amazing that Bruce Lee has such an amazing impact, but that doesn’t mean that the only elements of martial arts fall under the elements of Lee’s teaching. Now, don’t get me wrong, I do not mean to diminish the contributions of Bruce Lee in any way, but if you want to learn to fight, you will never become like or even be Bruce Lee. There are 3 reasons why, and you may want to argue with me, but it’s true.

Bruce Lee Lived, Breathed, and Thought About Martial Arts

Do you? You may think you do, but unless you’re getting up at 4 am every morning and hitting the gym, then doing martial arts practice, taking classes, teaching, reading, and writing, you probably won’t match the commitment to your body and sport quite like Bruce Lee. That doesn’t mean that you are not going to be able to do great things, and it doesn’t mean that you will not be able to learn from the master, but emulating him is not going to be easy, nor will it be possible for the average person.

Genetics Will Stop You

I learned this many times over in every sport I played. Even in martial arts, I have tried to be as fit as possible, strong, and yet I cannot match the prowess of Bruce Lee at any level. Sure, I can learn to fight, but looking and being as good as Lee? Not possible with my genetics. The problem with this notion is that you need to remember that you have limits overall. There are limits to what you can do, and you should know these limits. Genetics will stop you, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t keep trying to be your best. Your best is not to be the best example or iteration of Lee in any way. Be you!

Someone Is Always Closer

Look at action movies today, and you will find that there are a lot of great martial artists that are a lot closer to being as good if not as close to Bruce Lee as ever. You are not there. If you’re reading this, and you’re going to argue that you do have the same moves, the look, and the same style, then perhaps you are the exception. However, the grand majority of people are not going to be able to emulate Bruce and honestly, you can’t compete with some of the best in the world. I know, you are going to be sour about the notion, but it’s true. Someone is always closer, and that very well may mean you’re going to have to go far away in the line of people that are trying to be like the Dragon. You can learn to fight, but can you become the next Bruce Lee? Probably not.

This is said not to discourage you, mind you. However, you should be realistic about what you’re doing, and what you want to do overall. If you want to train like Bruce Lee, do it. If you want to learn Jeet Kune Do, then go for it. Just remember, you will not be Bruce Lee, you will be you. Be you! Be water! Be free! Learn your own style after you master another.

Is Street Fighting Legal?

Street Fighting - Is It Legal?
People often question whether or not street fighting is a legal thing to do. You could learn to fight, and never really know whether or not you’re within your rights to fight someone. Well, there are a few things that you should remember about fighting. The following can help you get a little bit of information about what to expect when you know how to fight, and how you can fight someone, even if it’s in the streets. If you want to know about street fighting, you can learn, but as far as the legal implications, here are a few notes.

Yes, It Is Legal To Street Fight

First and foremost, you are within your legal limits to street fight. If you learn to fight, yes, you can fight someone with your bare fists, kick them, and subdue them. However, this doesn’t mean that you can square up with someone that you just want to fight, and get paid or get into a club. This is not about “fight clubs”, or anything like that. The goal here is to learn to fight so that you can defend yourself. You are allowed self defense. That doesn’t mean that you should go and look for fights, do it for sport, or even kill someone with your bare hands.

Killing Someone In Self Defense

You can, in fact, kill someone by street fighting. It is for that reason that you should not run if you do this. If you are attacked, and you fight someone off, and they die, you need to call 911, and you need to speak to authorities. People are within their legal rights to defend themselves, unto the death. Do not fear that. Killing someone in self defense is justified, although you should be aware that your goal as a martial artist is NOT to use that kind of force. The goal is to defend yourself, and make sure that you are able to survive.

Do Not Show Off Street Fighting

Street fighting in self defense is legal. However, you should not go around showing off. You are not a child, you are not a celebrity that is getting photographed for your skills. Instead of letting people know what you know, just keep it to yourself, and save it for the dojo, training, and your own home gym. The less you show off, the more prepared you are going to be mentally. Just be aware of your surroundings, and be ready to strike at a moments notice. That will help you ensure that you are within your legal limits, and will not cause any disruption. Fighting someone is not impossible, and it is not illegal. You can learn to fight, and gain major momentum, but you need to first, remember to not show off.

Are you interested in learning self defense fast? Well, you could learn by visiting the recommend links, read reviews, and follow this blog for more information on how you can fight back and not be a victim today.

Using A Monkey Fist For Self Defense Is Legal

Monkey Fist Self Defense Tool - Image Source Wikipedia
There are a lot of different ways that you can defend yourself today. You are not limited to just using your hands, your feet, or any outside weapons. However, not everything that you come across in the spectrum of self defense is legal. For instance, you cannot just go around with brass knuckles in your pocket and expect to not get in trouble if you break someone’s jaw. The same can be said about a lot of the weapons and elements that you may find online, and through martial arts stores. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have anything to defend yourself, as you can utilize a variety of options, including what is known as a monkey fist to defend yourself. But before you start looking for, monkey fist self defense legal, you should know what this is, and how it can help you with defending yourself outright.

What Is A Monkey Fist?

The first thing that you should know is that a monkey fist is a knot that comes from nautical arenas. It is named as such because it looks like a balled up fist, similar to what a monkey would have if he was going to throw a punch. When you see it, you’ll be able to denote the similarities in how it looks. It is usually made of rope, and it is attached across a simple rope. If you were to look at one, it would simply look like a rope that has a small ball at the end of it. The self defense element of, monkey fist self defense legal, is that the ball at the end of the line is weighted with a small metal piece. That metal piece is weighted and is a ball that is no larger than a marble in most cases. While you can find monkey fists with billiard balls in them, the majority of people that are using these, will simply have a small solution, no bigger than 6 inches in length or so.

How To Use A Monkey Fist

The easiest way to use a monkey fist is to strike like you would a pair of nunchucks. You hold one end, the non-weighted solution, and you literally swing it to allow the ball to hit a target. Your momentum will carry the ball to the intended target, and it will sting like crazy. You can test it on yourself if you’d like, swinging it in a full fulcrum and then letting it hit your hand or body. However, when you go at this full strength, you will realize why so many are looking online for, monkey fist self defense legal.

Is Using A Monkey Fist For Self Defense Legal?

The short answer is, yes. These are often found as small options. However, if you have a large rope that is tied to a billiard ball, then you could face scrutiny from a police officer. Chances are, you are not going to be carrying around a large monkey fist wherever you’re going. However, they do make key chains, and other paracord solutions that you could purchase. These are not expensive self defense tools, and if you are truly looking to defend yourself, then you may want to look into how a simple looking keychain is meant to stop nefarious people from attacking. You don’t need to search for, monkey fist self defense legal, as it’s legal to use. It can save your life, and if you use it correctly, it could even break a brick! Either way, monkey fists are great tools for self defense, and perhaps one of the hidden gems of survival tools and more.

Combat Fighter Full Review – Does It Work in 2018? YES!

Combat Fighter Logo - Source tinyurl.com/combatfighterproof
In the course of writing this blog, I have found a lot of different programs that you can use to help you learn how to fight. Whether you want to get into weight, fat burning, or you want to seriously know how to defend yourself, there is no end to the opportunities that you can explore regarding self defense. There are a lot of options, no doubt, and upon looking into a alpha nation combat fighter review, I found that there’s a solid option for learning how to fight from home, without having to worry about the costs or the issues that are associated with traditional systems. In fact, as I started to look into the combat fighter technique, I realized that this was no joke, it was a serious opportunity to learn how to defend against a plethora of attacks, but also, how to make sure you can react with a proper mindset. Combat Fighter is a unique self defense program that is meant to help you learn to fight, in nearly any situation.

What Is Combat Fighter?

When you look into any major alpha nation combat fighter review, you’re going to find that there are a lot of things that you can explore about it. There are some people that will just tell you that this is a great thing to work with, and try to sell you on it. I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m going to highlight some of the things that you get if you decide to buy the Combat Fighter program.

The biggest thing that you are going to get with Combat Fighter is a full program on how to work with critical fighting situations. Whether you are in the streets, you’re in a war zone, or you are law enforcement and want more training, you will find out how to work with several different combat scenarios to diffuse chaos. The program has been built from the ground up, so that you will be able to learn how to focus on learning how to fight, and protect yourself and others.

The full scope of the program is likened to street fighting in a way, as it is not an organized martial art, but takes things from different martial arts, and defense courses that are aimed to help you detect, fight back, and diffuse any situation that you may be in. You will find that the program is easy to work with, has simple survival techniques to start, and will show you how to implement fighting theory, and more with relative ease.

Aside from the main program that teaches you how to fight, you will be able to connect with other people in the members section, that can help you learn and grow within the art of fighting, and get more out of the system than just getting a PDF or a video and that’s it. The program lets you take your time in learning how to fight, specifically in extreme conditions, and how to leverage your skill set to win a street fight, or any other fight that you may get involved with.

As noted in many other alpha nation combat fighter reviews that you may see online, this is not a fly by night product. It’s a fully realized fighting source, that will help you learn how to fight online, and in your own time, without having to spend a great deal of money. I was impressed with the amount of information that you receive for the price, and the sheer amount of attention given to the steps of how to diffuse a violent situation, react critically, protect your body, and others, with your fists or a light weapon if you have one near by.

Bonuses For Those That Purchase Alpha Nation Combat Fighter Today

Picking The Right Self Defense Course With 3 Questions

Which Martial Art/Self Defense Course Should You Choose - Image source martialtribes.com
As you start to look into the right self defense course, and you start a quest to learn to fight, you may be tempted to pick a lot of different solutions. Just driving around town, you’re going to find a lot of dojos that you can get involved with. There’s nothing wrong with that, but what if you wanted to learn on your own time? What if you wanted to learn at home? Well, there’s a variety of different paths that you can take when it comes to picking the right self defense course, and with that in mind, let’s take a few moments to break down how to pick the right course of action for you to learn to fight without much difficulty. Of course, these are things that are meant to help you make an appropriate decision based on several factors, and does not mean that everyone that reads this will have the same results or the same options, so don’t take it the wrong way as you read through the solutions mentioned below.

How Much Do You Want To Move?

The first question you need to answer before you learn to fight, is how much do you want to move? Some martial arts and self defense courses are going to ask you to do a lot of moving. This includes kung fu, for instance. If you don’t want to move a lot, you may want to take that into consideration when you learn how to work with any self defense course. Some are going to be very difficult to manage, while others are not. Your experience level will most likely dictate which option is right for you, but remember, some options are more difficult than others. For instance, you’ll find that kickboxing, while a great way to defend yourself, may not be great to start with if you’re not a little fit. Obviously, you can go that route, but remember, that is going to prove to be quite difficult if you’re not already used to moving a bit.

Do You Want To Learn In A Classroom Setting?

One of the main things that you will need to decide is how you want to learn. If you’re more of a traditional learner, then you will want to look into a traditional classroom setting. There are many dojos that you can work with. You can always ask for a helping hand with a real teacher at the helm of what you’re doing, which is always a good thing. However, you are going to have to go to these locations, pay a subscription fee, and deal with a variety of other things that you will not have to deal with if you were at home. If you want to be with others, if you want to be social, then this is a great option to explore for you. However, if you don’t want to visit a location, and you want to learn on your own time, then you can always focus on an internet solution like those that I recommend on every single post.

What Is Your Budget?

Lastly, you need to take into consideration what your budget truly is. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, then don’t go to a dojo and get lessons. Instead, make sure that you look into the low cost solutions that are offered on every post that you see on this site. We make it a bit easier to manage a process of figuring out what you want to do with learning how to fight, in any style you’d like. You may want to just learn to fight, and you don’t want to really become a lifetime martial artists. A martial artist’s life takes on learning a lot, and takes more than just a few plans of action. There are some that are still learning, mind you, and they have many black belts to show their work. Your budget will dictate which martial art you want to learn, and what plan you want to get into.

So Many Options That Teach You To Fight

Winning A Street Fight In 3 Steps

Winning A Street Fight - Image Source Dailymotion
Unless you’re playing the literal game, “Street Fighter”, you probably don’t think about the art of fighting. Oddly, enough that’s another video game. You are not a street fighter. You already know this, but it begs for me to repeat it. If you want to learn to fight, you have a lot of options at your disposal. Just because you learn how to fight with the tips and tricks from this blog, and the recommended products we promote, you should still remember, that you may have to use your skills in the street. Just because you do that, doesn’t make you a street fighter. But even though you may not be a fighter in the streets, you may have to fight someone in the streets, and therefore you should focus on winning in the fewest steps possible. After looking at a variety of different options, I have come up with 3 steps that should help you win a street fight. Now, this is just stated as a recommendation, and does not mean that every single scenario possible, will help you win through these steps, but you should take into account, these are to help you think about self defense on a larger scale.

Be Alert and Ready To Defuse A Situation

This is something that is very important. You should know what you are surrounded by. This should help in you regard to what weapons you may need to use, where others are going to grab something, and what is around you. If you’re in a bar, think about the exits, think about closed quarters combat, and remember you can’t get ready to put yourself in a fighting stance. You will need to be ready to defuse the situation, so be absolutely alert.

Being alert and defusing a situation doesn’t mean that you should throw down and fight. You learn to fight, so that you are prepared for a last ditch effort. To diffuse a situation, talk. Just simply talk to the person and see if you can apologize, and just let it be over. Do not intend to fight, don’t put your hands up, don’t make it look like you are going to spring into a kung fu action movie. Use confidence, stand up straight, look a person in their eyes, and say you’re sorry if you did something to offend them. If they don’t want to talk, if they still want to take things outside or perhaps they get into a fighting stance, take a deep breath.

Walk Away If You Can

There is nothing wrong with walking away. You learn to fight, so that you don’t have to fight unless you absolutely have to. I know, you don’t like this idea, and you don’t want to look like a coward. However, you don’t want to inflict damage into someone that is belligerent or is going to be easily taken care of. You would rather be called a coward than to fight. Walking away, is not bad. Do not get prideful. You have the skills that they may not have, and it’s not going to be a fair fight. If you throw your hands up and start to really lay into someone, you could kill them, and while self defense is meant to help you, you don’t want to attack. You want to walk away. Walking away means everyone wins, and you are not going to be less of a man or a woman for doing so.

Defend Yourself In A Street Fight

If you have to, if you have tried to leave the situation, and you have tried to diffuse it, to no avail, make a lot of noise. Scream, be loud, and then put your weight into your training. If you’re going to punch someone, if you’re going to kick someone, or even throw a proper elbow, make sure that you do so with all of your weight to ensure that you are able to get away, or at least keep the person down until law enforcement can come to help. You may have to call the authorities, or you may have to at least ensure that the person is not going to attack you, or goes away. Your goal is to use your training to end a street fight as fast as possible. Again, you do not learn to fight, so that you can take on all comers, but rather to learn to diffuse chaos. Fight dirty if you have to, don’t be afraid of it, the person you are up against is not going to wait for you to get into stance, to bow and go that route. You will need to fight, and use your training, if any.

There you have it, 3 steps that should help you win a street fight. Just remember, if you’re going to fight someone in the streets, make sure that you have exhausted all other recourses. If that doesn’t work, and you have to fight, make it quick. Use your training, explode, and finish the job until law enforcement comes to assist, or the person runs away. Chances are, if you snap into someone with the art of street fighting, or any methods you have, you’ll get someone to run, in due time.

The following are options that can help you learn how to fight today. These are recommended by me, and help in a variety of ways.

4 Lies People Believe About Learning To Fight

Lies People Believe About Learning To Fight - Mistakes That are Made By Millions
Self defense is one of the most important things that you should look into at any age. Protecting yourself and others is a great thing. However, most people don't go into learning because they are believing a lot of lies. The lies that are believed are interesting in that they are common place amidst a lot of different factors. You may find yourself making excuses, and not sure how to get into the world of martial arts, defending yourself, and all other things. Whether you are thinking about street fighting, knife fighting, or any other type of defense mechanism, there are a few things that you need to know that are outright lies. These are the lies people believe about learning to fight today.

You Need A Weapon So You Can Learn To Fight

Bad guys are going to have knives, guns, and much more. That doesn't mean that you have to be armed. You can be, there are legal matters that allow you to be armed in many cities. However, you do not need a weapon to learn to fight, nor do you need one to ensure that you're fighting back against anyone. Another lie that comes within this framework is that you will not have time to draw your own weapon. To learn to fight back doesn't mean that you need a weapon, nor does it mean that you will not have time to draw one if you need it. The focus of your training should be two fold. You should learn how to use a weapon properly, if you want to go that route, practicing how to aim and use things properly. The other thing that you should know is simple, you need to know how to react when someone pulls a weapon on you. This will take time to master, but it's a primary concern amidst those that are looking at self defense courses of all types.

It's Going To Be A Fair Fight

This is an outright lie that you cannot believe. You should never believe that anyone, outside of a tournament for martial arts, will be fair. There are no fair fights when you are in the real world. That doesn't mean that you are going to be dealing with unfair fights everywhere you go, and you should just learn bare knuckle, street fighting. Instead, you need to have a mindset that focuses on the fact that a real fight is chaotic, and you are going to need to control that chaos with precision. The goal of learning how to fight, and figuring out self defense from any angle, is to control what others cannot. A fair fight is extremely rare. As you learn to fight, remember that, and keep in mind that you need to master the mindset of fighting, not just the moves that you need to follow through with.

They Are Going To Just Let You Do Your Martial Arts

The next lie is a simple one, and something that gets a lot of dojo trained students in trouble. The problem here is that people are going to assume that an attacker is going to wait for a proper martial arts stance. An attacker is not going to wait for you to get ready, to get into a stance, to do your kung fu, or any other martial art. You have to be able to explode at a moment's notice. This is something that takes time to master, so if you're a beginner, you are not going to be ready. Whether you have a weapon or not, you need to remember that an offender in any realm is not going to wait for you to do cool moves and impress him. Remember, a real fight, and real world attacks are not like Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movies. It is very rare that you are going to meet someone nefarious that is going to put their hands up and start a martial arts stance to see who is better at any major discipline. If only it were true. Those are entertainment options, and do not reflect the nature of real self defense. When you learn to fight, remember, others are not going to wait for you to get ready or to get into a proper stance.

Knowing Martial Arts Means You Can Take On All Comers

Here is one of the biggest lies that you are going to need to shake off. Just because you master one area of martial arts, doesn't mean that you can take on anyone. There are going to be people that are crazy, will not fit into any mold, and will attack you in ways that you may not be ready for. It's with that in mind that you should not just learn self defense in one arena, and that's it. You should be fluid, like water, and start to learn various defense elements. As you learn to fight, make sure that you take your time to master all the basics, and know that self defense, martial arts, and any sort of fighting method is based on a lifetime of experience. That doesn't mean that you won't learn to fight fast, it just means that you shouldn't think that you can take on all comers with your knowledge. You should be humble enough to know that there are times and places where you can defend yourself and others, and other times when you need to stay back a little. You are not a robot, and when the time to defend appears, be ready, just don't assume you are going to be in an action movie as a result of your quest to learn to fight.

5 Mistakes To Avoid When Practicing Judo For Self Defense

Judo Throw Example - Image Source mokurendojo.com
Those that are looking at practicing Judo at home, or in a dojo, will no doubt be learning a great mechanism for self defense. You can learn to fight in this manner, but as you practice, you will want to avoid making simple mistakes. Judo beginners make mistakes, like anyone else, and while you can subscribe to a lot of programs, and think you're doing the right thing, you could be making simple mistakes. It's for that reason why the following has been compiled. These are 5 mistakes that you want to avoid when practicing Judo today. Whether you want to learn to fight, or you want to master Judo for any reason, avoiding the following mistakes is critical for your learning experience.

Over Using Your Strength Before You're Ready

As you learn Judo, you will be learning basic skills that can seem mundane in nature. It could be difficult to master many of the basics, but you may find leverage by using your strength. There's nothing wrong with overpowering an opponent, but you should make sure that you are not using your muscles to strain a throw or to balance yourself against an opponent. When you learn to fight, you have to learn the steps to master the basics. If you over exert yourself, trying to speed up the process, you can strain your muscles, back, and learn improper technique. Over use of your strength will cause your basic movements to stifle, and you will not learn the RIGHT way to do basic moves.

Keeping Your Muscles Tense To Avoid Being Thrown

No one wants to get thrown. No one wants to feel like they are being defeated. When you learn to fight, you do not want to feel the sting of someone hitting you in the face, or making you tap out from a submission. Keeping your muscles tense is a terrible thing. This is a major mistake. If you tense up when someone is trying to throw you, you're not going to be able to react properly, and learning how to use momentum in Judo to counter throws, and build leverage against your opponent will not be easy. You should never keep your muscles tense, but rather flow with the momentum, as it will cause you to learn, and avoid injury at the same time. Tense muscles will cause injury as you learn, so try to relax a little, and remember you're learning, you're not going to master Judo in one or two days. It takes time.

Looking At Your Opponent's Feet

You are going to be tempted to look at the feet of your opponent. This is not a good thing. If you are doing this, you are going to have a slight incline with your upper body. Your upper body will be pointed forward, even if you think you're not slightly forward, you will be inclined, and that will allow your opponent to easily take your momentum and flip you, throw you, and do their will against you. Do not stare at your opponent's feet, do not lean forward, learn to avoid what feels "right", because you're learning how to shift your focus as you learn to fight, and defend yourself.

Keeping Your Feet Too Close Together

Judo is a difficult thing to master, especially when you're starting out. As you learn to fight, remember to maintain your stance properly. You will have the tendency to put your feet close together, as it is going to let you move around a little easier. When you have your feet close together, as you learn, you will be moving faster, but that doesn't mean it's good. Yes, you should move fast, but when you're starting out, if you keep your feet together, you will be giving your opponent the freedom to throw you fast. When you are learning Judo, and other martial arts, you want to ensure that you can explode with any stance, but as you first start learning, you need to keep in mind that your feet will make or break your progress. When you are learning, keep your feet spread apart, and slowly improve your balance, do not rush it. Keeping your feet close may feel natural, but you will get toppled and thrown faster.

Staying In One Position Too Long

If you're on the offensive, you will need to focus on shifting your positions and movements often enough. You do not want to stay in one place, as that will cause you to end up dealing with a variety of issues. Your opponent, when in a tournament or just in a street fight will take note of your stance, and your position, and will topple you. They will cause you a disruption because your foot work is going to show them what you're thinking about. You should not stay in one position, or stay isolated to the same movements when you initially try to approach an opponent for a strike or a throw. Staying in one position is bad no matter what martial art you try to learn. This is not just a mistake in learning Judo, it's a mistake in any process you will find when trying to learn to fight.

The following are options that can help you learn how to fight today. These are recommended by me, and help in a variety of ways.

3 Critical Mistakes People Make In A Street Fight

Abraham Lincoln Was a Street Fighting Man - Image Source Vice Magazine
No one every wants to learn to fight, then get involved in a street fight and lose. No one wants to get into a street fight for fun, and despite your attempts to learn martial arts, or any defense method, you will need to be prepared. You may be good in class. You may have a black belt. You may also be the best student from home, online, or in dojos. But when you end up getting hit by an individual, when someone wants to take your money, or life, you can't ask them to slow down so that you can get ready. It's for that reason, why this post has been written. This is going to discuss the 3 major mistakes that people make in a street fight. This is to help you understand that while I advocate self defense from various options, I also advocate being realistic. You are not Batman, You are Not Bruce Lee, and You are not going to be able to win every fight if you just master self defense. You need to be ready for mistakes, and these are some of the common ones.

Assuming People Will Fight You Fair and Straight Up

Regardless of where you are, if there is someone that is going to attack you, and you are involved in a street fight, the person that you are going to be facing off against is not going to be fair. They are not going to fight you with the same stances that you learn in classes for self defense. Street fighting is not like a tournament, and it is not like what you're learning. It's something that you are going to have seriously take under consideration. Street fights are not fair, and when someone is attacking or you decide to raise your fists, you will need to remember that. Mentally prepare for throwing out the rule book at first, and then isolating the person and stopping them. Self defense is not about putting yourself in certain stances and then moving. You have to ascertain the situation, then react fast, and sometimes without rules, and without predictable movements. If you break the rules of your training, to isolate a person so that they don't hurt you or others around you, that's not bad. Remember, when you learn to fight, you can take it to the streets but the goal is survival, more than anything else.

Hesitating To React or Push Through Your Momentum

Let's assume that you have been work with self defense lessons of any time. Whether you are learning kung fu, Judo, or any form, you will need to avoid hesitation. Do not, under any circumstances, wait for an opening. Do not hesitate to fight back. You are more ready than you realize, and honestly, when someone decides they are going to come at you with any force, you have to react, you have to forget about everything else, and literally change things up. Your goal is to disarm someone, and to hold them there until help arrives or you could call 911 or anything else. The goal here is to defend yourself with necessary force. The training that you have done needs to be second nature. When you learn to fight, you need to react, and don't wait. people forget this. People sometimes wait for an opening, and they wait for themselves to end up in a particular stance. The person that is going to fight you will not wait for you to be in proper stance to punch back or fight. You need to just fight back. React, use your training, and react, simple as that. Hesitation, regardless of how great you are in fighting, will be your downfall in a street fight, it just will. Move without having to get ready or get into a stance. Never signal that you're a fighter, rather, react, and move into the flow of your training. No signals, no warnings, react.

Signaling That You Want To Fight

Never show off that you want to fight, never let anyone know that you know how to fight, and always rememebr that a street fight is not fair. If someone is going to attack, they are going to attack. If someone wants to fight you, they may be boisterous, and may be loud, and get in your face. Step back, and react based on what they do, never just pounce. You have to make it seem like you don't want to fight, and don't push back, don't yell, don't do anything like that. Stand your ground, and fight back as a defense mechanism. you do not want to be the aggressor in many instances. Remember, a street fight is not fair, and most often, attackers are not going to know that you are capable of fighting back and will be shocked when you do. That is if you give them no signal that you want to fight, or can fight. You must give NO signals that you have any background in self defense. If you learn to fight, let no one know, even if you are provoked, simply go from calm to 60 miles per hour in a matter of one movement, and do not let yourself hesitate.

Chances are, you are not going to get into a street fight like that of a video game. You are not going to get into a stance and face off against some Fu Manchu dude at a temple. Unfortunately, that's just not going to be a common place. You will not fight someone that is going to be fair, etc. Street fights are common, but they are not like the video games, or movies, or anything like that. They are over in seconds, and they can be dangerous things, but if you learn proper technique and practice you can survive and win. When you learn to fight, you learn more than just the process of punching someone in the face, you learn to survive and even win in a street fight.
